Koji Muraishi is a Boston-based bassist, arranger, and music director known for his versatility across contemporary, Latin, and global music styles. An active freelance musician, he has performed extensively as a live and session bassist across the United States and Asia, bringing a dynamic and adaptable presence to stages ranging from festivals to corporate events. His professional experience also includes working behind the scenes in large-scale productions, notably assisting with stage operations for renowned K-pop star Henry Lau in New York City. As both a performer and arranger, Muraishi is committed to crafting thoughtful, high-quality musical experiences tailored to diverse audiences and collaborators.
Born into a Macanese–Japanese–Korean family, Koji was immersed in a rich cultural and musical environment from an early age. Growing up in Macau, he developed an early interest in music that quickly expanded into multi-instrumental study, including electric bass, guitar, trumpet, and percussion. His exposure to multiple languages and cultures, fluent in English, Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Korean, has deeply shaped a global perspective that informs both his musical voice and collaborative work. Early experiences performing in local settings laid the foundation for his career as a cross-cultural musician.
He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music, majoring in Professional Music with a minor in Latin Music. During his time at Berklee, he has studied with renowned faculty including Victor Wooten and John Patitucci, further refining his technical skill and artistic identity. His studies are supported by prestigious honours including the Berklee World Tour Scholarship and Divisional Award Scholarship and he has already participated in over 25 performances on campus.
Alongside his academic pursuits, Koji continues to build an international career as a performer, arranger, and music director. His work spans live performance, commissioned arranging, and sound engineering, reflecting a well-rounded approach to the modern music industry. With experience performing across multiple countries and contributing to a wide range of musical settings, he is steadily establishing himself as a flexible and forward-thinking artist. Looking ahead, Koji aims to expand his presence as a global collaborator and creative leader, bridging musical traditions and pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance.
